Chats with Kat – Vol. 5

September 14, 2018

Hi friends, and happy September! September is my favorite month for a lot of reasons: it means new school supplies, the beginning of fall, and MY BIRTHDAY! I turn 21 at the end of the month, and in all honesty I can’t wait. In the meantime, though, I’ve got quite a few things to update ya’ll on in this Chats with Kat since my last one:

College/School Chats

I started my senior year of college on September 4th! Even though I like most of my classes and am super excited to be in my Senior Capstone class, I’m itching to jump into the real world. Senioritis is real, and it’s been difficult mustering the motivation to actually do my work after being at a 9-5. On top of that, being back at school after spending the last semester abroad definitely has me in my feelings. Even though I’ve spent so much time here since my freshman year, everything all of a sudden feels so foreign, and it’s for sure been an adjustment for me. Hopefully my next Chats with Kat post will find me a little better-adjusted, but for now I’m trying to manage the best I can.

I also started my job as a Resident Assistant here on campus, and that has been one of the greatest highlights of my semester thus far! To be honest, I was incredibly nervous to jump into the role, but I really love the other RAs in my building and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish this year.

I’ve got a great feeling about this year, and even though there is a lot of change happening at once, it’s all good change.

Life Chats

I’m finally making good on my goal to go to the gym more often this semester, and I’m really excited about it! Even though I’m not yet going every day, Michael and I have been going in to lift regularly. It’s been super rewarding!! I’ve even done some weight workouts on my own, and I’m really proud of my commitment thus far. Granted, it is only the second week of school, but I have a good feeling that this is going to last a lot longer than my other attempts at going to the gym. I’ve also been eating a little healthier, which brings me to my next topic…

I  started cooking my own meals more because I now have a kitchen in my dorm room! I’ve been having fun trying new recipes, and also spending waay too much money at Trader Joe’s. I just recently started shopping at the infamous TJ’s, and honestly, I’ve been living under a rock for my entire life!

TV/Music Chats

Even though literally everyone in the internet is talking about it, I knew I had to mention To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in this post. Within two weeks of the movie’s release, I already watched it three times and read the first two books of the series. (Do I have a problem? Yes.) It’s just the kind of heartwarming romantic comedy that I need during this slightly turbulent time in my life, and if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it!

As for Netflix TV shows, I am currently splitting my time between New Girl and Friends – two shows with great senses of humor! I started New Girl upon the suggestion of my friend Emily while we were abroad, and Michael and I have been watching Friends while we eat dinner. Friends is a show I’ve always wanted to watch all the way through, and I am so glad that I’m almost there!!

Finally, in the music department, I have been enjoying going back to my “emo”/alternative rock roots. That is, of course, when I’m not choreographing for dance. In particular, I’ve been listening to a lot of The Maine and my “alternative” daily mix playlist. You can check them both out here:

Blogging/YouTube Chats

I’m trying to revive my YouTube channel and expand content to include my weekly vlogs in addition to STEM things, too! I’ve been dying to do a video on engineering internships, but I’m not quite sure how to structure it, so if you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments.

As for my blog, I’m slowly pulling out of my writer’s funk and am coming up with some great content ideas for you all, including more #STEMBabes posts! However, I am always open to suggestions, so let me know if there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see from me.

Final Thoughts

Senior year is shaping up to be quite the experience, and I’m excited to see what this semester holds! I feel like it will be a lot of change, and there’s no getting out of that. At the same time, though, for the first time in my life, I feel completely ready to take it on.

What’s new with you guys? How was your first week of classes?
