Life Updates: Where I’ve been (Again) and the new year

December 14, 2019

So, here we are again, after another long hiatus from the blog. I told you guys in my last life updates post that I wasn’t going to promise more consistency, which was a good call. I did write about routine in my last life update, but even so, everything is changing. If there’s anything the past seven-ish months have taught me, it’s that stability doesn’t last for very long. But I mean that in the best way possible.

So…how’s work?

I started to get into the swing of things at work! I spoke about this a little bit in my post on impostor syndrome, but it’s been taking me some time to build my confidence in the workplace. There is so much at work that I didn’t learn in school, which has presented quite the learning curve when coupled with office dynamics. Beyond even the technical skills (like GD&T!), learning when and how to ask for help, and how to do things like self-evaluations are all things I’ve had to learn recently. I’m so thankful for the support system I have at work, because they’ve helped me get the hang of it.

And of course, now that I’m getting into the swing of things, I’m rotating onto my next team! It’s exciting because I’ll be able to develop new skills, work with new(ish) people, and contribute to a cool project. However, it’s going to be an adjustment, especially because I just started feeling comfortable with my work and team.

Don’t get me wrong! This is exactly what I wanted with this rotational program, but it’s going to take some getting used to. They say “growth begins at the end of your comfort zone”, and this experience is proving that to be true.

And how’s everything else?

I’m still going to workout classes! I think this is my longest amount of time sticking to a workout style, and I’m pretty proud. I’ll be honest – I don’t go nearly as often as I’d like. (Those 6am classes…) Still, I go fairly regularly, and it’s been really great. In the new year I’m hoping to focus more on my physical health, and this has been a good way to ease into it.

I recently decorated my apartment for Christmas, and it’s brought me a ton of joy. When I first signed the lease for my apartment I was worried about being lonely or hating it, but the exact opposite is true. I’m so thankful to have this space to myself! I love that it’s truly mine, and it’s become my happy place after a weird day at work. Right now my favorite thing to do is to play the 10 hour yule log video on YouTube, grab a cup of hot chocolate, and read a book. The ultimate cozy vibes, and my preferred way of relaxing at night.

Like I’ve said before, it’s easy to get caught up in the mundane. As a result, I’ve been finding solace in the little things. Drinking my cup of coffee on the couch in the morning. Putting a wreath on my front door. Lighting a candle. Playing Harry Styles’ new album. The “Dinner Party” episode of The Office. Individually they may seem small, but together they bring me so much happiness.

Looking toward the new year

On the note of the little things, there’s a small joy I get from writing one of these blog posts, and I’m hoping to add blogging back to my list of little happy things.

Sometimes in the middle of the work day I’ll be struck with inspiration, and write down a thousand blog post ideas. Of course, nothing has happened with them (yet), but I’m setting a goal to post more in 2020. Things may be busy, but I pride myself on making time for the things I care about, and I’m hopeful that once I get myself organized I’ll be back to making content.

I am so proud of Yours Truly, Katrina, and I’m excited to bring it into this next chapter of my life (for real this time). Thank you for sticking around. 🙂

Send me your life updates! Or blog post requests!
